At the Christian Super sponsored Global Leadership Summit last week, Melinda Gates provided a fantastic insight into the work of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which supports initiatives that tackle critical welfare and poverty issues around the world. Their drive to see the abolishing hunger and world poverty is both an inspiration to see but also a great challenge for us to consider how we could be affecting the world around us.
As one of the largest foundations in the world with over 1300 employees, the Gates Foundation has been approaching issues through the following teams; global health, global development, U.S. program, and global policy and advocacy. The often unconventional approaches they have taken to aid and development have proven to have fruitful results around the world.
Melinda’s comments surrounding the importance of letting your heart break for humanity was an important reminder of how we are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus. While we may not operate at the same scale as the Gates Foundation, everyone is called to fulfill their part in God’s plan for humanity. As we allow our heart to break for those around us, it is almost impossible not to respond with our prayers, with our time, and with our finances.
