Preservation
To ensure that superannuation is kept until retirement, the government has placed certain restrictions on when you can access your super.
Preservation rules changed on 1 July 1999. Certain superannuation amounts before this date are not subject to the same preservation rules. Your annual member statement will show if any of your benefit is not subject to preservation.
Your Christian Super preserved benefit can only be paid to when you:
- Leave your employer after attaining age 60
- Reach age 65
- Die or become totally and permanently disabled
- Leave Australia permanently (conditions apply).
- Retire from the workforce after reaching your preservation age as follows:

In certain circumstances, you may be able to access part or all of your superannuation benefit prior to retirement, namely:
- In the form of a Non-commutable Pension if you are age 55 or over; or
- As an Early Release payment at any time on account of financial hardship or on compassionate grounds (conditions apply).
