12 impact investments that are empowering women around the world

On International Women’s Day we wanted to share some of the ways that our impact investments are empowering women around the world. Impact investments are investments made into organisations that generate measurable social and environmental outcomes, alongside a financial return. Here are 12 of our projects that are aligned to the Sustainable Development Goals.

1. Healthlink Management Ltd. / Nairobi Women’s Hospital
Nairobi Women’s Hospital is on of Kenya’s largest hospital chains, with four secondary facilities and one outpatient facility. It is well known for its’ staff and top-tier medical services for women. It also runs a well-respected Gender Violence Recovery Centre. 

2. Annapurna Microfinance Pvt. Ltd.
Annapurna Microfinance is a microfinance institution that lends exclusively to women in India. They currently provide finance for over 1.3 million borrowers, 88% of which are in rural areas.

3. Bina Artha Ventura
Bina Artha Ventura is a microfinance institution that lends exclusively to women in Indonesia. They currently provide finance for over 350,000 borrowers, 83% of which are in rural areas.

4. Dawn Microfinance
Dawn Microfinance is a microfinance institution that lends exclusively to women in Myanmar. They currently provide finance for over 175,000 borrowers. 

5. Fusion Microfinance
Fusion Microfinance is a microfinance institution that lends exclusively to women in India. They currently provide finance for over 1.2 million borrowers, 90% of which are in rural areas.

6. Grameen Koota
Grameen Koota is a microfinance institution that lends exclusively to women in India. They currently provide finance for over 2 million borrowers. 

7. Kashf Foundation
Kashf Foundation is a microfinance institution that lends exclusively to women in Pakistan. They currently provide finance for over 400,000 borrowers. 

8. MBK
MBK is a microfinance institution that lends exclusively to women in Indonesia. They currently provide finance for over 1 million borrowers. 

9. Small Enterprise Foundation
Small Enterprise Foundation is a microfinance institution that lends exclusively to women in South Africa to fund their small businesses. They currently provide finance for over 180,000 borrowers. 

10. Sonata Finance
Sonata Finance is a microfinance institution that lends exclusively to women in India. They currently provide finance for over 650,000 borrowers. 

11. VisionFund Lanka
VisionFund Lanka is a microfinance institution that lends exclusively to women in Sri Lanka. They currently provide finance for over 75,000 borrowers, 94% of which are in rural areas.

12. Metropolitan Hospital Holdings Ltd.
MHHL is made up of two hospitals in Kenya. One is a private tertiary care facility, and the second is an outpatient facility. Services offered include Cardiac Sciences, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics, Mother and Child, Dialysis, Paediatrics, and Emergency services. The two facilities are located in Nairobi, where a large population creates a growing need for these services.
