Super That Supports People Suffering with Mental Health Challenges in NSW
On Saturday 10th October, we celebrated World Mental Health Day. During these trying times of illness, loss of life, loss of income, lock downs and isolation, it’s important that we remember not only our neighbour, but also the vulnerable people living and suffering in our communities. Hope and prayer is needed, but practical help and support are vital too. If you’ve had the opportunity to read our 2019/2020 Year of Impact report, you will know that your Super has made an incredible difference in the lives of many people both in Australia and around the world.
One group of investments in our portfolio which is making a difference for people is Social Benefit Bonds. Social Benefit Bonds, or Social Impact Bonds, give investors the opportunity to generate a competitive financial return while uplifting vulnerable people in our communities.
Resolve Social Benefit Bond (Resolve SBB)
Resolve SBB is a great example of one of the effective social benefit bonds your Super supports. Through this investment, you are helping to improve the lives of people suffering with mental health issues in NSW.
Through Christian Super, your retirement savings directly fund the Resolve Program. A recovery-orientated community support program which combines a residential service for periodic crisis care, integrated psychosocial, medical and mental health support and a vital hotline for after-hours support from peers.
The Resolve Program is delivered by Flourish Australia, a mental health service provider with almost 60 years of experience and a national leader in the employment and support of mental health peer workers.
The Resolve Program aims to support 530 adults over a seven-year service delivery period, helping these people live the life they want. Each participant will receive support for up to two years, delivered in collaboration with the Nepean Blue Mountains and Western NSW Local Health Districts.
The goal of Resolve SBB is to improve the mental health and wellbeing of participants. It also aims to generate significant savings for the NSW Government through a reduction in participants’ need and use of health and other services, in particular by reducing the number of days spent in hospital. These government savings are shared with Flourish, to fund the delivery of the Resolve Program, and with investors to provide a financial return on their investment.
Resolve SBB is just one of five life affirming social impact bonds that your Super contributes to through Christian Super. These innovative initiatives make a positive social impact, restore dignity and save lives. They also have a great return on investment for your Super!
